  • fibionic GmbH
    fibionic GmbH

fibionic was born from a simple yet powerful idea: that nature has already solved many of the engineering challenges we face today, especially when it comes to lightweight design. If you look at a dragonfly’s wing or the leaf of a tree, what you see is optimized structural efficiency, strength only where it’s needed, no material wasted. In nature, form follows function. That principle inspired our approach.

At fibionic, we apply this bionic blueprint to composite production by reinforcing materials only where needed, using continuous high-performance fibers such as carbon, glass, or even natural alternatives such as flax, aligned along load path.

The real breakthrough lies in combining this design methodology with the world’s fastest fiber placement technology, enabling the production of ultra-efficient, fully recyclable components, all with almost zero material waste.

The result is a fully automated, high-speed, and sustainable system that makes highperformance lightweight components accessible to the mass market, not just for niche applications.

fibionic was officially founded in June 2021 by Johannes Mandler and Thomas Rettenwander, who together bring deep expertise in mechatronics, fiber composites, automation, and materials science. Johannes Mandler studied Mechatronics and has extensive experience in automation and technical sales. Thomas Rettenwander holds a PhD in Plastics Engineering, was awarded for his bionic design methodology, and led numerous composite R&D projects. In 2024, Elias Hirschbichler joined as late cofounder, bringing in his background in digital transformation, business process optimization, and strategic management to help scale the company.

Today (05.05.2026), we are a powerful team of 17 people with our core production site in Götzens near Innsbruck, Tyrol, where our first fully automated production machine is up and running. This series machine enables us to reach a cycle time of 1 minute per part, with an annual output capacity of up to 500,000 components.

Our vision is to make fibionic the global technological standard for sustainable and affordable shallow shaped composites across all industries, from sports & leisure to consumer electronics, UAVs to robotics. We are building the bridge between nature’s brilliance and industrial efficiency.
